Job Purpose

  • Serve as the main technical focal point in health for the Health operation implemented by the Venezuelan Red Cross with the support of the IFRC.
  • Support the implementation and revision of the health interventions as proposed in the Plan of Action as well as supporting the Operation Manager of the Operation, in coordination with IFRC Health and Care Unit.
  • Support the Venezuelan Red Cross in coordinating, strategic planning and designing effective actions that will respond to the daily health challenges while establishing and developing health services.
  • Support the Venezuelan RC in coordinating with local health authorities, national and international agencies that are providing health responses, with the aim of strengthening effectiveness of the Movement responses, identifying potential synergies and preventing duplicated efforts.
  • Support the Venezuelan RC in building institutional capacities.
  • Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Red Cross Movement in coordinating strategic responses to the health challenges during the process of developing strategies of either basic health care provision.
  • Support the Venezuelan RC in implementing the recommendations of the health needs assessment and strengthening the strategy to respond, including mobilizing the resources in the area;
  • Support the Venezuelan RC and Operation Manager of the Operation in designing a feasible model for implementing clinical and public health activities alongside the progress of the operation.
  • Support training and building capacity of the Venezuelan RC staff / volunteers for clinical and public health activities.
  • Report, update and coordinate with resources forwarded from the Venezuelan RC, IFRC s Operation Manager, IFRC Country Cluster Andean, Disaster and Crisis Operation Coordinator, ARO’s Health and Care Unit and others forwarded from the field.
  • Support the Venezuelan RC in coordinating with local organizations that are providing health services;
  • Identify strategies that can strengthen capacities of the national society and propose a plan of action to achieve the objective;
  • As part of complementary capacity building efforts with other ongoing Health Programs, support the training of Venezuelan RC staff and volunteers
  • Other functions delegated by the Operation Manager of the Operation.
  • Others :

  • Support on monitoring and evaluation and integration into the wider health plan;
  • Support reporting on the above against the IFRC Emergency Plan of Action for Venezuela.
  • Education

  • Health Professional (Doctor, Nurse) Mandatory
  • Post graduate in public health or equivalent experience
  • Training in health in emergencies with Red Cross preferred
  • Experience

  • 3 +Experience in Management of Health Facilities Mandatory
  • 3 + years’ experience in health in Emergencies or Community health Mandotory
  • 3+ years previous experience in response to Emergencies of the Red Cross / Red Crescent / Knowledge in the tools of disaster management Mandatory
  • Experience with National Societies of the Red Cross Mandatory
  • Experience in community-based health work and social mobilisation Mandatory
  • Experience with National Societies of the Red cross Preferred
  • Knowledge, skills and languages
