What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence.

We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949.

We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence.

We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The post holder should contribute to the work of the Forensic Unit in the promotion and continued development of its programs and activities related to the management of the dead in armed conflict, disasters, and migration.

S / he will work under the supervision of the Head of the Forensic Unit and technical supervision of the Deputy Head of Unit.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Assisting in the organization of internal trainings, seminars, and workshops;
  • Contributing to ongoing or new forensic projects as required;
  • Contributing to communication projects and promotional tools including publications development;
  • Contributing to the drafting of letters and emails intended for internal and external audiences;
  • Compiling information on forensic operations globally for necessary analysis and program development;
  • Supporting on testing and functioning of ICRC forensic database.
  • Certifications / Education required

  • Master's degree in forensic sciences, health sciences, physical anthropology or related studies, equivalent to a Master's degree
  • Language

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Fluency in Spanish, French, Arabic or Russian is an asset.
  • Professional Experience required

  • Knowledge of skeletal analysis and human identification
  • Good computer skills (Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)
  • Important Information

    Are only eligible to ICRC traineeships candidates with a maximum of two years of professional experience during studies and / or after graduation.
