Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities : Within delegated authority, the Information System Developer Assistant will be responsible for the following duties :

Developing new software solutions (web sites / portals and systems) for projects upon request :

  • Upon receiving and accepting the software development job, provide realistic estimate for the tasks required to complete software development;
  • Follow the functional requirements specified in the analysis phase of software development lifecycle and write software codes;
  • Participate in the meeting with the software users for follow up and upgrades if required;
  • Maintain software / ensure it is working properly and fix bugs during the project duration;
  • Provide software documentation if required by the project.
  • Adaptations / improvements of existing software solutions for projects upon request :

  • Upon receiving and accepting the software adaptation / improvement job, provide realistic estimate for the tasks required to complete software development;
  • Provide modifications / adaptations of the existing software solutions, using source code of the already developed solution;
  • Provide installation of existing software solutions to new project locations and customize the solutions according to user needs;
  • Provide software documentation required by the project;
  • Interaction with UN OCHA Venezuela staff and beneficiaries :

  • Collect user needs and requests;
  • Advise on realistic requests and provide ideas and software recommendations;
  • Advise and guide staff on various elements of a successful software use;
  • Analyze project progress reports from external software companies providing services to UN OCHA Venezuela projects (Microsoft Azure, ESRI, ISP, etc.);
  • Participate actively on the discussions about different thematic subjects managed by UN OCHA to understand the topics beyond the software needs;
  • Performs other related duties, as required.

    Required Skills and Experience

    Education :

    University degree in software development, information technology or related area is required. Candidates with High School Diploma, five (5) years of working experience of software development or related fields.

    Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in ICT area, two years (2) of working experience of software development or related fields.

    Experience :

    At least five years of experience in experience in web development, both frontend, and backend. Extensive experience in PHP, MySQL, Linux servers (SLES and Centos), Windows Servers, JQuery, CSS3, Bootstrap, Openlayers, Leaflet, Mapserver, and PostgreSQL with PostGIS.

  • Experience in Linux bash programming and proactivity to automate repetitive scripting office tasks working with different types of database systems.
  • Experience in data collection, information analysis, and development of information products with the analyzed data. Demonstrated work experience with large amounts of data from multiple sources in multiple formats.
  • Experience with business intelligence software and geographic information system (GIS) platforms is a bonus.
  • Experience with humanitarian aid context or experience with aid agencies and / or the United Nations system is an advantage.
